Nepalese authorities urged villagers to evacuate on Sunday following a massive flood in the Budhi Gandaki River, caused by a dry landslide in Chumnubri village in the Gorkha district. The landslide, located about 100 km west of Kathmandu, blocked the river, leading to downstream flooding that swept away several houses and two suspension bridges. A hydroelectric project in the area was also damaged. Dharmendra Kumar Mishra, the Gorkha district's most senior bureaucrat, stated that villagers living along the river banks downstream had been asked to evacuate. National disaster authorities alerted residents in the Gorkha, Tanahun, Chitwan, East Nawalparasi, and West Nawalparasi districts about the flood and requested assistance with timely evacuations and search and rescue operations. Army and police rescue personnel have been deployed to the affected area and are monitoring the situation from a helicopter. No casualties have been reported thus far.
