Mastercard launched its Global Money Platform on Thursday, a new service that allows businesses to hold, move, and spend traditional currencies and stablecoins side-by-side through a single connection. The platform integrates BVNK's stablecoin infrastructure, a company Mastercard acquired in August for approximately $1.8 billion. The new offering enables businesses to embed multi-currency accounts into their own branded products, facilitating real-time conversion between fiat and stablecoins, issuing stablecoin-linked cards, and making local-currency payouts directly from stablecoin balances. The platform connects to Mastercard Move, the company's money transfer network, with plans to support over 40 currencies in more than 200 countries by 2027. Payments firms Nuvei and Marqeta are among the initial integration partners.
