Moonshot AI, the company behind the Kimi AI, has introduced a credit card in China that converts consumer spending into AI compute credits. This novel approach, developed in collaboration with Agricultural Bank of China and American Express, aims to integrate AI services into everyday financial transactions. The card allows users to exchange consumption points for AI resources, agent quota, and access to premium features on the Kimi platform. The standard card offers Kimi Andante membership, while a premium platinum version unlocks the Kimi Allegretto tier, with annual fees potentially waived or offset by reward points. This initiative comes at a time when AI compute supply is reportedly straining to meet demand, following a surge in Kimi's K3 model usage that previously strained GPU capacity. The rapid development timeline, from conception in April to public reservations in June, reflects China's fast-paced fintech and AI sectors. This product is also seen as an attempt to reverse the trend of declining national card issuance by using AI as an incentive. The partnership with American Express provides Moonshot AI with access to a global merchant network, supporting its international expansion efforts, which have seen significant growth in overseas paid users and API revenue.
