Kalshi, in collaboration with alternative data platform Carbon Arc, is set to introduce new contracts focused on predicting sector-specific key performance indicators (KPIs). These contracts aim to provide investors with a novel way to bet on market and economic trends without directly buying stocks or options. The platform will track data points such as point-of-sale data and app downloads, allowing users to speculate on broader business metrics. Kalshi executive Jack Such stated that using stocks as a proxy for specific theses often fails due to stock price volatility unrelated to the core view. He believes these KPI contracts offer a more direct way to express a view on business metrics. Carbon Arc CEO Kirk McKeown highlighted that the initiative aims to democratize access to alternative data, which has historically been the domain of hedge funds, by addressing pricing and access issues for smaller investors.
