Israeli forces shell southern Syria, fire towards civilian homes

On Friday, an Israeli artillery shell landed on agricultural land west of Beit Jinn, followed by a second shelling of the same area. Later, Israeli forces opened fire towards civilian homes in Maariya, also in western Daraa. No injuries or property damage were reported in either incident.

On Sunday, Israeli forces attacked the village of Abdin in western Deraa, prompting residents to attempt to block an Israeli army unit. Shells were fired near civilian homes, causing families to flee to neighboring villages. Calm returned on Monday morning, allowing residents to return.

The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the attacks on Monday, calling them a "flagrant violation of Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity." Turkiye also condemned the attacks, stating they violate international law and trample on the lives and property of the Syrian people.

Israel has intensified its operations in southern Syria in recent weeks, with the Syrian Sijil Center recording nearly 300 operations or violations by Israel in Deraa and Quneitra in June. Israel stated on Sunday that it had killed "several armed terrorists" a day earlier, a description it routinely uses for Syrians resisting its occupation. Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz has stated that Israel intends to maintain its troops in the occupied sector of Syria "for an indefinite period."
