Israeli air attacks have struck three areas in southern Lebanon, according to Al Jazeera. The reported targets include Nabatieh al-Fawqa, al-Mansouri, and Wadi al-Saluqi.
These strikes follow an earlier Israeli air raid on the Lebanese town of Kfar Reman that killed three people and injured at least 23, as reported by the Ministry of Public Health. Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency (NNA) indicated that the strike hit Nabatieh, near the Ali al-Taher ridge, which the Israeli army claimed to have captured.
Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz asserted that the military had cleared Hezbollah fighters from tunnels under the strategic ridge. NNA also reported that Israeli raids and artillery shelling targeted seven towns in the Tyre and Nabatieh districts, including al-Mansouri, Majdal Zoun, Buyout al-Sayyad, Beit Lif, Srebbine, Zawtar al-Sharqiyah, and Mayfadoun.
Israeli forces stated they intercepted a Hezbollah drone and would retaliate. These actions occur despite two truce agreements mediated by the US administration on June 4 and June 26. The June 4 ceasefire required a complete cessation of Hezbollah fire and evacuation of fighters south of the Litani River, while the June 26 agreement linked Israeli withdrawal to Hezbollah's disarmament.
Lebanese authorities report that since March 2, Israeli attacks have resulted in over 4,000 deaths and at least 12,000 injuries, displacing over one million people. The Israeli military has expanded its presence in southern Lebanon following rocket fire into Israel by Hezbollah in retaliation for US-Israeli air strikes that killed Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Separately, Israeli authorities released four Lebanese individuals detained in Israeli prisons, who were transferred to Lebanese authorities via the International Committee of the Red Cross. This follows the release of one Lebanese man the previous day as part of an agreement between the countries.
Earlier, on August 15, eleven people, including three children, were killed and 19 injured in two Israeli airstrikes on southern Lebanon. One strike bombed a home near Ansar, killing seven, and another hit Deir al-Zahrani, killing two and wounding nine. An Israeli drone also targeted a motorcycle in Nabatieh.
