Iran: Strait of Hormuz closed, no US talks sought

Negotiations between Iran and Oman regarding the key waterway were held on Friday and Saturday, but Baghaei emphasized these discussions "have nothing to do with the US."

The spokesperson also addressed the detention of two French diplomats earlier in July, stating that the French government must "cease such actions and such interference in Iran’s internal affairs under misleading labels." The diplomats were detained for several hours on July 19 before being allowed to return to the embassy.

Earlier reports indicated that Iran had stated the Strait of Hormuz cannot be used by "aggressors" to harm its national security. Iran's chief negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, cited US and Israeli "blatant violations of the ceasefire" as reasons for the strait's closure. The country also announced the seizure of two cargo ships, MSC Francesca and Epaminondas, for "operating without authorisation" and committing "repeated violations." Additionally, six vessels were reported to have attempted to cross the southern route of the Strait of Hormuz "illegally and unsafely" after switching off their navigation systems.
