Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that Tehran is prepared to immediately reciprocate if the United States fulfills its commitments under an interim deal signed in June. Pezeshkian made these remarks during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
He asserted that if the U.S. returns to its commitments in the memorandum of understanding, Iran will reciprocate, contrasting Iran's record of honoring international commitments with that of the U.S. Pezeshkian also referenced past attacks on Iran, including those on June 13, 2025, and February 28, 2026, describing them as aggression against international law. He claimed that Iran inflicted significant defeats on the U.S. and Israel, leading to a ceasefire after the U.S. failed to achieve its objectives.
Pezeshkian proposed several economic initiatives for the SCO, including deepening financial and banking cooperation, promoting the use of national currencies, and establishing an SCO bank. He also suggested creating an export insurance and investment union and forming an energy consortium. Furthermore, he proposed establishing an SCO strategic security studies center and a parliamentary forum, emphasizing that security and development are inseparable for the organization's effectiveness.
World leaders, including Russia's Vladimir Putin, China's Xi Jinping, Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and India's Narendra Modi, were present at the summit. Pezeshkian engaged in sideline meetings, conveying Iran's preference for diplomacy over armed conflict with the United States.
