Crypto asset manager Grayscale has filed an S-1 registration statement with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for a proposed Worldcoin ETF. The fund, which would trade on Nasdaq under the ticker GWLD, aims to provide investors with regulated exposure to the Worldcoin (WLD) token, a project co-founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.
If approved, the Grayscale Worldcoin ETF would utilize generic listing standards for commodity-based trusts, potentially expediting its launch once WLD meets Nasdaq's eligibility criteria. BitGo has been appointed as the custodian, and the Bank of New York Mellon will serve as the transfer agent and administrator. Worldcoin's WLD token saw an approximately 8% increase in price following the news, though it remains down for the week.
The filing continues Grayscale's strategy of expanding its cryptocurrency ETF offerings, following its successful conversion of the Bitcoin trust and launches of other crypto-linked funds. Worldcoin, which uses an iris-scanning device called the Orb to create a 'World ID' for proof of personhood, has faced regulatory scrutiny in various regions.
