Genesis, the luxury division of Hyundai Motor Group, has introduced its first full-size electric SUV, the GV90. This new flagship model positions Genesis in direct competition with other high-end electric SUVs such as the Cadillac Escalade IQ, Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV, and Lucid Gravity.
The standard GV90 is equipped with seven seats and massage functions. Genesis also revealed the more luxurious GV90 Neolun variant, which features rear-hinged coach doors and lacks a fixed B-pillar, allowing the front seats to swivel 180 degrees when parked to create a lounge-like atmosphere. The Neolun 'Executive Suite' configuration is a four-seater that includes a refrigerator, tables, privacy blinds, and a six-zone adjustable transparency glass roof.
Inspired by traditional Korean underfloor heating systems ('ondol'), the Neolun features a real wood floor in the second row with radiant heating. Genesis noted that such amenity-rich electric vehicles are common in China's luxury EV market, citing the NIO ES9 SUV with its massage seats and refrigerator, and the Zeekr 009 Grand with its large smart screen.
The GV90 is estimated to have a range of 310 miles on a full charge and can achieve an 80% charge from 10% in 22 minutes using a 350-kilowatt fast charger. While Genesis has not yet announced pricing for the US market, the NIO ES9 Executive Premium Edition starts at approximately $74,000, a price point significantly lower than what might be expected for the GV90's luxury features in the US.
