French President Emmanuel Macron announced on Saturday that Paris will strengthen its support for Ukraine, including the delivery of air defense interceptors and missiles, following a deadly Russian drone attack on a shopping mall in Kryvyi Rih. Macron stated he spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Saturday after the strikes, which resulted in 16 deaths and 130 injuries.
During their conversation, Macron informed Zelenskyy of the stepped-up support. Zelenskyy confirmed the discussion focused on air defense needs and that the two leaders agreed to accelerate the delivery of the latest French equipment and missiles. The Ukrainian leader also expressed gratitude for France's readiness to provide licenses for missile production.
Macron and Zelenskyy also discussed diplomatic efforts with international partners and communication with the U.S. administration, agreeing on steps that could create additional diplomatic opportunities. Macron, along with the leaders of Germany and the U.K., is scheduled to co-host a Coalition of the Willing meeting on Monday to discuss ongoing support for Ukraine. The meeting, which will address Russia's aggression, is expected to be attended in person by approximately 10 leaders, including European Council President António Costa, while some leaders, including Macron, will participate remotely.
