Key facts
- Ethereum's Glamsterdam testnet fork delayed due to gas security risks.
- Bitcoin hashrate reached a seven-month high.
- Starknet voters overwhelmingly supported research into becoming an independent L1.
Ethereum developers have postponed the Glamsterdam hard fork on the Hoodi testnet, originally scheduled for Oct. 26, due to security risks identified by ChainSecurity. The risks, related to gas changes in proposals EIP-8037 and EIP-8038, could undermine existing smart contract safeguards against insufficient gas griefing attacks. The postponement introduces uncertainty regarding Glamsterdam's mainnet timeline. Meanwhile, Bitcoin's network hashrate has surged to a seven-month high, exceeding 1 zettahash per second, despite major mining companies redirecting resources toward artificial intelligence. This intensified competition has led to a 5.92% increase in mining difficulty on Oct. 16. Separately, Starknet's community overwhelmingly voted in favor of researching a transition to an independent, post-quantum layer-1 blockchain, with 93.52% of voting power supporting the initiative.
