Chinese regulators have initiated a joint investigation into reported brake pedal bracket failures on the Maextro V800, a luxury electric vehicle developed by JAC Motors and Huawei. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, along with the Cyberspace Administration of China and the State Administration for Market Regulation, formed the team to examine the issue.
The probe follows a video published by automotive platform Dongchedi on October 8, which showed brake pedal brackets fracturing in three Maextro V800 vehicles during emergency braking tests from 100 km/h. Maextro responded by stating that no such failures had occurred in actual customer use and that the test conditions were 'non-standard extreme.'
Despite its earlier explanation, Maextro pledged to improve the component's design and offer existing owners a free upgrade. The company also committed to reviewing its design validation, testing parameters, and quality management. The incident has sparked debate over vehicle safety and testing methods, with JAC Motors' shares closing down 10.01% on October 8.
