He is set to face Democrat David Jolly, who is also projected to win his party's primary, in the November general election. The race will determine the successor to current Governor Ron DeSantis. Donalds, a congressman representing south-west Florida, defeated other Republican candidates, including Jay Collins, DeSantis's lieutenant governor. Jolly, a former Republican congressman, switched parties and ran a more moderate campaign. Democrats have not held the Florida governor's mansion since 1999.
