The coffin of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei arrived in the holy city of Najaf, Iraq, on Tuesday, where it was received by Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi and senior Iraqi officials. Khamenei, who was killed in joint U.S.-Israeli airstrikes on February 28, 2026, was mourned by tens of thousands in Qom on Tuesday following a prayer service led by Abdollah Javadi-Amoli. Earlier, millions had gathered in Tehran for a funeral procession on Monday. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian also arrived in Najaf to participate in the ceremonies, which are expected to draw large crowds on Wednesday.
