Harry Potter actor Rupert Grint has secured planning permission from North Herts Council to develop an eco-village on his Hertfordshire estate. The approved plans will see Kimpton Grange, a former vicarage Grint purchased in 2009, converted into six apartments and supplemented by nine new homes within the wider grounds.
The development, described by Clear Architects as "truly outstanding and innovative," is designed to be carbon neutral. Despite some resident concerns about potential harm to woodland and wildlife, the council's Planning Committee granted outline permission in 2024, followed by full approval on June 10.
As part of the planning agreement, Grint will contribute nearly £200,000 towards local infrastructure. This includes £100,000 to Kimpton Parish Council, £70,000 for the expansion of Katherine Warington School, and an additional £11,400 for school places for children with learning difficulties. Additionally, Grint will gift a parcel of land to the parish council, which will be transformed into a public park with a picnic area and a circular walking path.
