PwC's current London headquarters at 1 Embankment Place is set to undergo a significant redevelopment into a sustainable workspace, as the firm prepares to relocate to Canary Wharf in 2030. Property firm Bridgemont has submitted a planning application to Westminster City Council for the transformation of the building, which is located above Charing Cross Station.
The proposals include a 35,000 sq ft space tailored for businesses, alongside new retail and leisure options designed to create a vibrant gateway between the West End and the South Bank. The redevelopment aims to achieve ambitious sustainability targets, including a 70% reduction in operational energy use and becoming a fully decarbonised, all-electric building.
The project, led by architects Hopkins, will preserve approximately 90% of the existing structure, originally designed by Sir Terry Farrell. Sir Terry's son, Max Farrell, is involved in the re-design to ensure the original architectural vision is respected. PwC's move to One Eden in Canary Wharf follows a trend of major firms consolidating in the financial hub.
