President Volodymyr Zelensky has appointed Yurii Pohribnyi as the new commander of the Logistics Forces of Ukraine's Armed Forces, according to a presidential decree issued on August 17. Pohribnyi succeeds Volodymyr Karpenko in this role.
The Logistics Forces are crucial for the Ukrainian army, overseeing the storage, repair, and transportation of essential supplies such as weapons, ammunition, military equipment, food, and fuel.
This appointment comes amid a broader reshuffle of military leadership and follows discussions between Zelensky and military officials. Zelensky indicated that experienced commanders would be granted increased decision-making authority on various frontline sectors, including Sloviansk, Kostiantynivka, and Pokrovsk. He emphasized the importance of empowering these commanders at the corps and group of forces levels.
Pohribnyi has a long service record, having fought in the Armed Forces since Russia's initial invasion in 2014. Since 2020, he has served as deputy commander and commander of the 532nd Repair and Recovery Regiment.
Zelensky also noted that discussions with Commander-in-Chief Mykhailo Drapatyi led to five personnel appointment decisions, with more anticipated.
