Ukraine's General Staff announced on July 11 that Russia has sustained approximately 1,417,770 troops in Ukraine since the full-scale invasion commenced on February 24, 2022. This figure includes 1,490 casualties reported over the preceding 24-hour period.
The report also detailed significant losses in military hardware, including 12,116 tanks, 24,922 armored combat vehicles, 45,754 artillery systems, and 437 aircraft. Ukraine has withheld information regarding its own losses, citing operational security.
Independent Western analyses, such as those from the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), suggest that Russian casualties substantially exceed those of Ukraine. A CSIS report from January 2026 estimated Ukraine's total casualties between February 2022 and December 2025 to be between 500,000 and 600,000, with an estimated 100,000 to 140,000 killed in action. The same report indicated a casualty ratio favoring Ukraine at approximately 2.5:1 or 2:1.
