The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on June 16, 2026, that Russia has sustained approximately 1,385,420 troops since the full-scale invasion began on February 24, 2022. This figure includes 1,230 casualties reported in the previous 24 hours.
According to the Ukrainian military's report, Russia has also lost a substantial amount of military hardware. This includes 12,026 tanks, 24,768 armored combat vehicles, 107,508 vehicles and fuel tanks, 44,118 artillery systems, 1,872 multiple launch rocket systems, and 1,427 air defense systems. The losses also extend to 436 aircraft, 353 helicopters, 353,541 drones, 1,667 unmanned ground vehicles, 33 ships and boats, and two submarines.
Ukraine's General Staff has not disclosed its own losses, citing operational secrecy. However, independent Western think-tank reports, such as one from the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in January 2026, suggest that Russian casualties significantly outnumber Ukrainian losses, estimating the ratio to be "roughly 2.5:1 or 2:1." The CSIS report indicated that Ukraine likely suffered between 500,000 and 600,000 casualties from February 2022 to December 2025, with 100,000 to 140,000 of those estimated to be killed in action.
