Ukraine launched hundreds of drones across Russia on Sunday in one of the largest aerial assaults of the war, resulting in at least six fatalities. Russia's Ministry of Defense stated that it had destroyed 822 drones overnight, with 600 of them targeting the capital region.
In the southwestern Rostov region, five people were killed across three towns that came under attack, according to local Governor Yury Slyusar. Separately, an 83-year-old man died in the Moscow region when a Ukrainian drone struck a private home. Other reports indicated at least three people were killed and about a dozen injured in the Moscow region.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that these attacks were a direct response to Russia's ongoing drone and missile launches against Ukrainian cities. He asserted that Kyiv's strikes are "entirely justified" and serve as a message to Russia that its state must end the war. Zelenskyy also highlighted that Ukraine's drone and missile manufacturers are continuing their work, and that Russia had launched over 3,170 attack drones, 1,300 guided aerial bombs, and 74 missiles targeting Ukraine in the preceding week.
