The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on June 27, 2026, that Russia has lost approximately 1,399,720 troops since the commencement of its full-scale invasion on February 24, 2022. This figure includes 1,350 Russian casualties sustained over the preceding day.
In addition to personnel losses, the report detailed significant equipment attrition for Russian forces. These include 12,060 tanks, 24,835 armored combat vehicles, 112,634 vehicles and fuel tanks, 44,857 artillery systems, 1,899 multiple launch rocket systems, and 1,447 air defense systems. The Ukrainian General Staff also reported the loss of 436 aircraft, 353 helicopters, 375,611 drones, 33 ships and boats, and two submarines.
Ukraine's General Staff has withheld its own casualty figures, citing operational secrecy. However, independent Western think-tank analyses suggest that Russian losses substantially exceed those of Ukraine. The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) has estimated the casualty ratio to be approximately 2.5:1 or 2:1 in favor of Ukraine. A January 2026 CSIS report indicated that Ukraine likely experienced between 500,000 and 600,000 casualties from February 2022 to December 2025, with an estimated 100,000 to 140,000 killed in action during that period.
