The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on July 2 that Russia has sustained approximately 1,405,900 troops since the full-scale invasion commenced on February 24, 2022. This figure includes 1,140 Russian casualties reported in the preceding 24-hour period.
In addition to personnel losses, the report detailed significant equipment attrition for Russian forces, including 12,069 tanks, 24,861 armored combat vehicles, 45,168 artillery systems, and 385,190 drones. Russia has also lost 1,459 air defense systems, 436 aircraft, and 353 helicopters.
Ukraine's General Staff has maintained operational secrecy regarding its own losses during the conflict. However, independent Western think-tank analyses, such as those from the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), suggest that Russian casualties substantially exceed those of Ukraine. A January 2026 CSIS report estimated Ukraine's total casualties between February 2022 and December 2025 to be between 500,000 and 600,000, with an estimated 100,000 to 140,000 killed in action.
