Ukrainian forces struck a Russian Bastion coastal defense missile system in occupied Crimea overnight on Aug. 16, the Ukrainian Navy reported. The system's launch positions and deployment site were hit, with the Navy claiming significant losses in Russian personnel and military equipment. The Bastion is a coastal defense system used by Russia to launch Onyx supersonic and Zircon hypersonic cruise missiles. The Ukrainian military also reported striking a railway bridge near Svitlodolynske in Zaporizhzhia Oblast used for military logistics and troop movements, as well as targeting Russian logistics facilities and ammunition depots in Karlivka, Donetsk Oblast. Crimea has been a key staging ground for Moscow's military operations since its occupation in 2014, and Ukrainian forces have increasingly targeted military assets on the peninsula.
