Ukraine's General Staff announced on August 10 that Russia has sustained approximately 1,459,210 troops since the full-scale invasion commenced on February 24, 2022. This figure includes 1,470 Russian casualties reported in the preceding 24 hours.
The report also detailed extensive Russian equipment losses, including 12,255 tanks, 25,116 armored combat vehicles, 47,669 artillery systems, 439 aircraft, and 354 helicopters. Additionally, Russia has reportedly lost 452,994 unmanned aerial vehicles, 2,181 unmanned ground systems, 35 ships and boats, and two submarines.
Ukraine's military has withheld its own casualty figures, citing operational security. However, independent Western analyses suggest that Russian losses are significantly higher than Ukraine's. The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) has estimated the ratio of Russian to Ukrainian casualties to be between 2:1 and 2.5:1. A January 2026 CSIS report projected that Ukraine might have suffered between 500,000 and 600,000 casualties from February 2022 to December 2025, with 100,000 to 140,000 of those being killed in action.
While official figures from Ukraine are rare, President Volodymyr Zelensky stated in February that at least 55,000 Ukrainian soldiers had been killed in action since the war began, with a considerably higher number missing in action. The intensity of drone warfare and ongoing combat operations makes retrieving and confirming the identities of fallen Ukrainian soldiers challenging.
