A suicide bombing in northwest Pakistan on Thursday night killed at least 15 people, including 12 soldiers, the military reported on Friday. The attack targeted the Manji Khel police check post in the Tank district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
According to initial reports, an explosives-laden vehicle rammed the check post, triggering a powerful blast, followed by heavy gunfire. Security sources indicated that the deceased included nine soldiers, four police personnel, and one official from the provincial forest department, with at least 24 others injured. The post was reportedly razed to the ground.
Authorities imposed Section 144 and a district-wide curfew in Tank district. Security forces launched clearance operations that continued through Friday morning. During these operations, three militants were killed in the surrounding area. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, and an investigation is underway.
K-P Governor Faisal Karim Kundi condemned the attack, describing it as a "malicious act by India-backed khawarij" and expressing sorrow over the loss of security personnel.
