Russian missile strike kills 10 at Ukraine defence event

A Russian ballistic missile strike on Friday in Ukraine's Kyiv region killed 10 people and injured close to 100 others at a site where a defence industry event was being held, according to Ukrainian officials and industry representatives.

President Volodymyr Zelenskiy confirmed that rescue operations were underway following the strike. The acting governor of the Kyiv region, Ruslan Oliynyk, stated that preliminary information indicated a ballistic missile hit a private training ground during an event.

The Ukrainian Council of Defence Industry confirmed that representatives of the nation's defence industry were present at the targeted site, though it clarified it was not the event's organizer. Valerii Borovyk, founder of drone company First Contact, told Ukrainian media that a missile struck the training ground during a defence industry exhibition.

Ukraine's prosecutor general, Ruslan Kravchenko, announced that a criminal case has been opened to investigate potential improper performance of official duties related to the organization and conduct of the event.
