Ukraine launched overnight strikes on Russian territory, damaging an airport in Belgorod and a microchip manufacturer in the Bryansk region, according to reports. Aleksandr Shuvaev, acting governor of the Belgorod region, stated that three people were killed and 11 injured, adding that while most missiles were intercepted, some struck civilian infrastructure.
The Ukrainian Army General Staff claimed responsibility for the strikes, asserting that they exclusively targeted military facilities. They reported hitting two defense industry facilities in the Bryansk region, the oil depot at Belgorod airfield, bridges, and other enemy targets.
Meanwhile, the Russian defense ministry claimed to have shot down 452 Ukrainian drones over 16 Russian regions and occupied Crimea. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin reported that over 430 of these drones were heading toward the Russian capital before being intercepted by air defense systems.
These Ukrainian strikes follow a deadly Russian attack on Kyiv the previous night, which resulted in at least 12 deaths and over 50 injuries. Following the attack on the capital, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called for increased Western support, particularly for air defense systems.
