The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on July 7 that Russia has sustained approximately 1,412,250 troops in Ukraine since the full-scale invasion commenced on February 24, 2022. This figure includes 1,200 casualties reported over the preceding 24-hour period.
In addition to personnel losses, the report detailed significant equipment attrition for Russian forces, including 12,097 tanks, 24,899 armored combat vehicles, 117,085 vehicles and fuel tanks, 45,508 artillery systems, 1,917 multiple launch rocket systems, and 1,478 air defense systems. The reported losses also encompass 436 aircraft, 353 helicopters, 394,846 drones, 33 ships and boats, and two submarines.
Ukraine's General Staff has maintained operational secrecy regarding its own losses throughout the full-scale invasion. However, independent Western think-tank analyses suggest that Russian casualties substantially exceed those of Ukraine. The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), in a January 2026 report, estimated the casualty ratio to be approximately 2.5:1 or 2:1 in Russia's favor. This report further indicated that Ukraine likely experienced between 500,000 and 600,000 casualties from February 2022 to December 2025, with an estimated 100,000 to 140,000 killed in action during that period.
