The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on June 28, 2026, that Russia has sustained approximately 1,400,970 troops since its full-scale invasion began on February 24, 2022. This figure includes 1,250 casualties suffered by Russian forces in the preceding 24 hours.
In addition to personnel losses, the report detailed significant equipment attrition for Russia, including 12,063 tanks, 24,844 armored combat vehicles, 44,920 artillery systems, and 436 aircraft. Russia has also lost 353 helicopters, 377,500 drones, and 33 ships and boats.
Ukraine's General Staff has withheld its own casualty figures, citing operational secrecy. However, independent Western analyses suggest that Ukraine's losses are considerably lower than Russia's. A January 2026 report from the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) estimated Ukraine's total casualties between 500,000 and 600,000 from February 2022 to December 2025, with killed-in-action figures ranging from 100,000 to 140,000. CSIS also suggested a casualty ratio of roughly 2.5:1 or 2:1 in favor of Ukraine.
