Prime Minister Narendra Modi received Slovakia's highest civilian honour, the Order of the White Double Cross (1st Class), during his historic visit to Bratislava. This recognition, the 33rd international honour for Modi, coincided with the elevation of India-Slovakia ties to a Comprehensive Partnership. This marks the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Slovakia since its independence.
Discussions between PM Modi and Slovak President Peter Pellegrini, as well as with Prime Minister Robert Fico, focused on expanding cooperation in trade, technology, defence, and strategic affairs. Memorandums of Understanding were signed on labour migration and digital technology, with India also committing to establish an 'India Chair on Artificial Intelligence' at a Slovakian university.
Earlier in the visit, PM Modi received a ceremonial welcome and Guard of Honour, and participated in a traditional bread and salt greeting. He also paid tribute to fallen soldiers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
