Pakistan's first Hangor-class submarine, constructed in China under a 2015 agreement, has arrived at Karachi Port. The vessel was greeted with a traditional naval welcome ceremony, with Commander Pakistan Fleet Vice Admiral Abdul Munib as the chief guest.
The submarine is part of a deal for eight Hangor-class diesel-electric attack submarines. The initial four are being built by China Shipbuilding and Offshore International Company (CSIC), while the remaining four are being assembled in Pakistan at the Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works (KSEW) through a technology transfer agreement.
The 'Hangor' class is named after the Bengali word for 'shark', honoring pre-1971 traditions. The modern vessels are described as highly advanced, stealth-capable attack submarines.
