BRUSSELS, June 18 (Reuters) - NATO has agreed to modernise its nuclear capabilities and bolster its nuclear planning capacity, the alliance's senior body for nuclear deterrence announced. The decision by the Nuclear Planning Group (NPG), which includes all NATO allies except France, comes as the alliance seeks to adapt its deterrence posture to the current security environment.
Ministers participating in the meeting reiterated that NATO's strategic nuclear forces serve as the ultimate guarantee of Allied security and form the foundation of the alliance's extended deterrence architecture. The NPG stated that allies agreed to enhance NATO's nuclear deterrence mission through modernising capabilities, strengthening planning, and adapting to secure NATO's interests.
