North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has reaffirmed his country's alliance with Russia in a congratulatory letter sent to President Vladimir Putin on the occasion of Russia Day. The letter, dated June 12, expressed Kim's "warmest congratulations" to Russia on its national day, which commemorates the 1990 declaration of Russian state sovereignty.
According to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), Kim wrote that the relationship between North Korea and Russia is being "further strengthened into sincere and devoted relations of comradely trust and alliance, opening a new chapter of history." He attributed this growing bond to both nations honoring their commitments under the comprehensive strategic partnership treaty that the two leaders signed during their summit in Pyongyang in June 2024.
"It is the invariable will and stand of mine and the DPRK government to fully support the internal and external policies of Moscow and always join the Russian Federation," Kim stated in the letter. The letter was delivered by North Korea's Ambassador to Russia, Sin Hong-chol, during a meeting with a Russian foreign ministry official.
