Jared Kushner, U.S. President Donald Trump's son-in-law, participated by video link in a major European Union-backed conference focused on Gaza's future and recovery. Brussels unveiled the Team Gaza Initiative, a package totaling nearly €900 million, aimed at restoring essential services and beginning the territory's early recovery.
The funding, amounting to an initial €883.6 million, will be directed towards critical sectors including water and sanitation, waste removal, health care, energy, agriculture, and food systems. Kushner, who is also a member of the U.S.-appointed Gaza Executive Board, has been instrumental in developing Washington's postwar plans for the region.
The European Commission and the European Investment Bank committed €257 million to the initiative. Other participating nations and entities include Spain, Denmark, the United Kingdom, Germany, Norway, Finland, Italy, the Netherlands, France, Japan, Switzerland, Sweden, Belgium, and the World Bank.
The conference took place shortly after Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas announced the first Palestinian legislative elections since 2006.
