An Israeli air strike on a residential apartment building in Nabatieh, southern Lebanon, killed at least one civilian and wounded over a dozen others. The Israeli military stated it targeted Hezbollah underground assets and denied striking a civilian building directly.
Lebanon's state-run National News Agency reported that the woman killed lived in Germany and had returned to Lebanon less than a month prior to visit family. The agency cited the country's health ministry stating that the woman and 13 others were targeted in the air raid on the Nabatieh building, with seven additional people wounded in air raids on the city's outskirts.
The Israeli army stated its fighters attacked an underground site used by Hezbollah for its fire and defence system in Belfort, claiming the group was attempting to resume activities there in breach of the November truce. The army spokesman also stated that Lebanese reports of an Israeli drone hitting a residential building were inaccurate, suggesting the explosion damaging the building was caused by a Hezbollah rocket.
These strikes follow a U.S.-brokered ceasefire in November that ended over a year of exchanges of fire and nearly two months of full-scale war between Israel and Hezbollah. Friday's strikes were described as more intense than usual.
