Iran is set to fully close Tehran's airspace on Monday as part of funeral arrangements for Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The Iranian Students’ News Agency (ISNA) reported that regular services at Tehran's Mehrabad International Airport and Imam Khomeini International Airport will be suspended on Monday during public commemorations.
While flights continued during Sunday's ceremony, authorities stated that Mehrabad airport is expected to return to normal operations on Tuesday. However, Imam Khomeini International Airport will remain closed. Additionally, airspace over the northeastern city of Mashhad, along with operations at Shahid Hasheminejad International Airport, will be fully suspended on July 9 during the final burial ceremony.
Flights across the rest of Iran are scheduled to continue without restrictions on July 7 and 8, with the exception of services to Mashhad on the final day of the ceremonies. The funeral ceremonies officially began Friday, with foreign leaders and official delegations paying tribute. The main procession is scheduled for Tehran on Monday, followed by rites in Qom on July 7, ceremonies in Iraq on July 8, and the final burial on July 9 in Mashhad.
