Funeral prayers were held for Zahra Mohammadi Golpayegani, the 14-month-old granddaughter of Iran's late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, who was killed in a US-Israeli airstrike on February 28. Footage from the ceremony in Tehran showed the infant's coffin placed beside Khamenei's, with a portrait of her also displayed.
Her mother, Boshra Khamenei, and father, Mohammad Javad Mohammadi Golpayegani, were also killed in the same strike. The funeral ceremonies for Ali Khamenei, who died in the February 28 strikes, are expected to last six days, with large numbers of mourners attending.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf were among the officials seen paying their respects. The ceremonies are scheduled to move to Qom and then to Najaf and Karbala in Iraq before Khamenei's final burial in Mashhad.
