Iran summoned the British ambassador to Tehran to protest what it described as "baseless accusations" following a London court's sentencing of two individuals for a knife attack. The court found the attack on Iranian journalist Pouria Zeraati, a presenter for Iran International, was carried out "on behalf of" Iran.
The judge stated that evidence "overwhelmingly points" to the attack being orchestrated by the Iranian government. Following the sentencing, British security minister Angela Eagle affirmed that the "abhorrent attack" was carried out on behalf of Iran and vowed to hold the regime accountable.
Iran's official IRNA news agency reported that Tehran conveyed its protest to the ambassador, asserting that the UK's continued hosting of "terrorist channels" financed and directed by Israel violates international legal obligations. Iran International, a private broadcaster based in London, was designated a terrorist organization by Tehran in 2022.
