European Union member states have finalized a deal on a comprehensive 21st sanctions package targeting Russia. A key point of contention, the proposed ban on shipping Russian gas to third countries, was resolved through an extended agreement. Additionally, the EU has decided to maintain its price cap on Russian crude oil at its current level of $44.10 per barrel for the next 12 months. This decision prevents an automatic recalculation that would have potentially increased the cap. Greece had previously expressed reservations about the gas shipping ban, arguing it was beyond previous agreements and would be circumvented by vessel re-registration. The agreement was reached on Thursday.
