Flash floods and landslides in China's northwestern Gansu Province have resulted in 25 deaths and 23 injuries, according to state media. The official Xinhua news agency reported the updated toll on Sunday, following earlier reports of 10 deaths after torrential rain hit Weiyuan County on July 26.
A separate landslide in Dangchang County on Tuesday buried 33 people, with search and rescue operations concluding and confirming 21 fatalities. Authorities have earmarked 30 million yuan ($4.4 million) for reconstruction efforts following this disaster.
Gansu authorities have warned of continued risks, including further landslides, as heavy rains persist during the annual flood season. The national commission for disaster prevention, reduction and relief has requested investigations and assessments from provincial authorities.
Meanwhile, heavy rainfall continues across large areas of Sichuan Province, where state broadcaster CCTV reported that 64,609 people have been evacuated and over 881,000 residents relocated since the start of the flood season. Weather alerts were also issued for Beijing and Inner Mongolia.
