An exchange of fire between two groups in Manipur's Kangpokpi district on Monday resulted in at least three injuries. The incident occurred between Konsakhul, a predominantly Naga village, and Leilon Vaiphei, a Kuki-dominated village.
The injured, all belonging to the Kuki community, were transported to Imphal's Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) by security forces. Tensions escalated at the hospital as protesters objected to the admission of the injured youths. Security forces deployed teargas shells to prevent protesters from entering the hospital building.
An official stated that the exchange of fire lasted for several hours. The Kuki Inpi Manipur, the apex body of Kuki tribes, condemned the incident, alleging that the attack on Leilon Vaiphei was carried out by the NSCN-IM and its proxy ZUF-K.
