Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked 12 years in office, highlighting significant reforms and policy shifts implemented during his tenure. The government released a booklet detailing achievements, emphasizing tax reforms, increased investor confidence, and India's transformation into the world's fastest-growing major economy.
The booklet cited reforms such as the Goods and Services Tax (GST), faceless tax assessments, and the Digital India initiative as instrumental in building public trust and paving the way for India to become a USD 5-trillion economy. It noted that increased taxpayer confidence has fueled investment in infrastructure and other development projects.
India's economic narrative has shifted from being among the 'Fragile Five' to the 'Fastest Growing Economy' due to decisive reforms. The government also highlighted its success in controlling inflation, unifying the nation into a single market through GST, and implementing banking reforms that led to a reduction in non-performing assets (NPAs).
The digital push was also a key focus, with the cost of 1 GB of data plummeting by 97% to approximately Rs 8-10 since 2014. This has led to a substantial increase in internet usage, with the number of internet users reaching 103 crore by December 2025, up from 25 crore in 2014. Broadband connections have also surged to nearly 100 crore.
In terms of farmer welfare, the annual budget for the agriculture ministry has been increased fivefold to Rs 1.4 lakh crore, and Rs 4.3 lakh crore has been distributed to farmers under the PM-KISAN scheme. Industry leaders, including the Presidents of the Confederation of Indian Industry and Ficci, lauded the government's reforms, improved ease of doing business, and the resulting increase in investor confidence, affirming their commitment to supporting India's vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047.
Modi contrasted the NDA's 12-year record of political stability and development with previous decades of Congress rule, questioning the lack of comparable progress during that period.
