The strike at Dauch Corp, a critical supplier of axles and other components for General Motors' full-size and midsize pickup trucks, continues into its second week without a resolution. Union officials from UAW Local 2093 expressed frustration with the company's negotiation tactics, stating that productive discussions have not occurred. Josh Jager, bargaining chairman for Local 2093, indicated the union is working on a new proposal.
Dauch Corp, formerly known as American Axle, confirmed it is in communication with its customers, including GM, and is engaged in ongoing discussions with the union to reach a "mutually beneficial and market-competitive contract."
General Motors has reported that the strike has not yet impacted its production plants, and sources indicated last week that the automaker had approximately two weeks of axle supply remaining. Workers at the Dauch plant previously accepted lower wages in 2008, and the union is now seeking to raise the top hourly wage from $22 to $30 by 2030.
