A 44-year-old local BJP functionary, Vinod, was allegedly beaten to death and three members of his family were critically injured in a clash in Bairagiwala village, Dehradun. The incident, which occurred on Saturday, stemmed from a dispute over irrigation. Following the killing, authorities demolished "illegal" structures belonging to the accused amid chants of "Jai Shri Ram" from a gathered crowd. According to police, the altercation began between Vinod and Imtiaz, a resident of the same village, over watering an adjacent field. Subsequently, a group of over 40 individuals, armed with various weapons, attacked Vinod's house and assaulted his family. Vinod died at the scene from a head injury, while his brothers Ashok and Rajesh, and sister-in-law Sushma, sustained severe injuries and were hospitalized. Vikasnagar MLA Munna Singh Chauhan condemned the brutal killing and assured that those responsible would face justice, urging the public to trust the police investigation. Based on a complaint by Ashok, police registered a case against 12 named individuals and 30-35 unidentified persons for murder and rioting. Senior Superintendent of Police Pramendra Singh Dobal stated that strict action would be taken and police forces were deployed to maintain order. Right-wing groups reportedly pelted stones at the houses of the accused and vandalized their property.
