The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has strongly condemned Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut for his recent remarks describing Prime Minister Narendra Modi as an "aghori" and suggesting he originates from the "land of Aurangzeb."
Raut, speaking to reporters in Pune, stated he had never encountered such a cruel person in politics as Modi and that the Prime Minister's character inspires fear. He further asserted that Modi comes from the same soil that produced Aurangzeb, questioning if Gujarat was not that land.
Responding to Raut's comments, BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla stated that such remarks signify the opposition's "new levels of frustration." He alleged that the opposition, including the Congress and its allies, not only abuses the Prime Minister and constitutional offices but also insults the entire state of Gujarat. Poonawalla claimed that opposition leaders resort to abusive language because they lack substantive criticism of the Prime Minister, citing past instances of derogatory language used by Congress leaders.
Poonawalla added that this pattern of abusive politics has led to the opposition's electoral defeats, yet they continue the practice. He suggested that the opposition's insults are directed at Modi because he comes from an OBC family and a humble background as a tea-seller.
