Swedish trade union IF Metall announced it will suspend its nearly three-year industrial action against Tesla, effective August 19. The union stated that Tesla's acquisition of all its striking members has rendered the conflict ineffectual. The strike, which began in October 2023, was Sweden's longest and highlighted tensions between Tesla CEO Elon Musk's anti-union stance and Sweden's collective bargaining model. LO's contract secretary Veli-Pekka Säikkälä noted Tesla's substantial financial resources allowed it to buy out strikers rather than agree to collective bargaining, a unique move in the Swedish labor market.
