French President Emmanuel Macron presented UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer with the Légion d’honneur, France's highest civilian award, in recognition of his contributions to European security and support for Ukraine. Macron bestowed the honor during a meeting in Paris, praising Starmer's "personal leadership" and "commitments" for the security of Europe and Ukraine. Starmer is the first British prime minister to receive the award. He attended Bastille Day celebrations in Paris, marking one of his final foreign engagements before stepping down. Starmer has been credited with efforts to rebuild relations with European capitals and provide steady support for Ukraine. His successor, Andy Burnham, has pledged an even closer relationship with Europe. Winston Churchill is the only other British leader to have received a higher-level award, the Grand-Croix of the Légion d’honneur, in 1958.
