India and France have launched the India-France Innovation Roadmap 2030, a framework designed to bolster their technological partnership and co-development in critical and emerging technologies. Announced following a summit between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Emmanuel Macron, the roadmap aligns with India's Viksit Bharat 2047 vision and France's France 2030 strategy.
The initiative recognizes innovation as a crucial driver for economic resilience, sustainable development, strategic autonomy, and technological sovereignty. Both nations aim to unlock their full innovation potential and contribute to global solutions through this strengthened partnership.
A central focus of the roadmap is the development of 'Trusted AI'. Building on previous declarations and summits, both countries will collaborate to promote AI systems that are safe, secure, and aligned with democratic values and human rights. Efforts will be made to prevent discrimination and misinformation, while supporting the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Cooperation between regulators and standards bodies will advance interoperable, risk-based approaches to AI governance.
The partnership also prioritizes child safety online, acknowledging the risks AI-enabled services pose to children. Synergies will be developed between existing initiatives for age assurance, safety-by-design, and outcome-based safety standards for AI systems interacting with children.
Furthermore, the roadmap emphasizes the importance of privacy-preserving data sharing frameworks, such as India's Data Empowerment and Protection Architecture (DEPA) and France's work on trusted data spaces, to foster AI and data-driven innovation while safeguarding fundamental rights. Increased collaboration between universities, researchers, and SMEs is also planned, with France aiming to welcome 30,000 Indian students by 2030.
