Gloria Arizabaleta, head of Colombia's Commission of Investigation and Accusation, has proposed suspending President Gustavo Petro until June 21. The motion is linked to an investigation into allegations of political meddling by Petro. Petro's term concludes in August. Presidential hopeful Ivan Cepeda, an ally of Petro, stated he will recognize the results of the upcoming runoff election on June 21, even if unfavorable, but reserves the right to call for peaceful protests if citizens' rights are not upheld. Cepeda, who is running against right-wing lawyer Abelardo De La Espriella, pledged to deepen Petro's social and economic reforms, pursue peace talks with armed groups, and potentially coordinate interest rate decisions with the central bank if elected. He indicated that reviving oil exploration contracts would be difficult but expressed openness to gas exploration and mining.
